One factor that hardly offers a support to your destiny is called familiarity factor. A lot of people in your family and neighborhood who see you everyday are in most cases doubters of your potential.
Many people have been limited – so much – to what has become a routine for their lives. Whatever services or hobby which you render marks the only recognizable traits traceable to you.
It could be much detrimental if all that can be captured about you is a vice; say smoking, or tattooing or slandering. Well Jesus was captured as a carpenter. He had done carpentry all through his life until he was thirty. And so they said Mark 6:3~Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us?…
This is a wake up call to everyone because in most cases we seem to accustom our minds to the flows of our environment to the point that we see no reasons for innovation.
One of the most rampant killers of destiny and cause of laxity is excessive familiarity with patterns of your neighborhood. Some people may not have the opportunity to travel but they are a different breed in their level of thinking.
Standing out from a population requires application of things different from the population’s norms.
In the midst of a neighborhood that is accustomed to clubbing all night, you can become an intercessor all night. There is a generation of Christians who are afraid of exercising the power of God; when you are in their midst cultivate the habit of laying hands and praying for the sick. Where dressing is lackadaisical, you can dress decently.
Making a difference is not only showing up in your physical environment, it is also showing up in the spirits. For once, God may demand just one righteous man to save a nation from destruction.
A certain man of God could do wonders in the church but was faced by troubles in his home. One day, his wife got on her knees before him and appealed to him saying “man of God my home is on fire, pray for me”. That was the first day he felt the powerful anointing in his house and he placed his right hand on his wife and prayed. From that day things changed in his family. That was the one day which his wife agreed to his calling and set familiarity aside.
Familiarity breeds unbelief. Mark 6:6~And he marveled because of their unbelief. Most people who ever told their stories after a difficult success will always start with, “nobody believed in me”.
Jesus was not limited to his country, for while he was in his country, he was not of his country and why he was born by Mary, he was not of Marry for he says; Mark 3:33-35~But He answered them, saying, “Who is My mother, or My brothers?” And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother.”
For the first time he called his disciples including Judas who was a thief and gave them power against unclean spirits. Remember they had neither prayed nor fasted. But that the spirit of unbelief due to familiarity do not prevent the work of God, he instructed them to preach the kingdom of heaven and heal the sick and cast out demons.
Familiarity is a very stubborn spirit and so when he sent them he also told them that anywhere they were not welcomed, they should shake of the dust under their feet and leave.
This act of looking down on people because of their condition is not normal. Take every body as gift and a pottery crafted by God. In such way shall we escape the spirit of unbelief due to familiarity. In anyway you can help a vision, help it. Do not make attempt to rewrite the visions of your children, support them instead.
May we not be victims to vices of familiarity.
